Case: EV charging device at a housing company parking area
EV charging devices can also be installed in the parking lot of a housing company.
An EV charging device installation was performed at the pariking lot of a housing company in Espoo, southern Finland. The property in question is a semi-detached row house cooperative near the sea, and was built in the 1990s.
Permission for the installation of an EV charging device was applied for from the contact person of the company contracted to take care of the servicing and maintenance of the housing company. An application for alteration work was also made to the property manager. It was mentioned in the application that the charging device has its own energy meter, according to the reading of which the energy costs could be invoiced. The capacity of the charger was adjusted so that the heating capacities of the other vehicles using the heating system would not be affected while the EV was being charged.
The customer drives a 100% electric Nissan Leaf car. A GE WattStation was selected as the charging device for this location, since it is ideally suited for charging the Leaf.
The fixed cable in the device can be safely and easily wound around the device, off the ground/floor. The plug at the end of the cable has its own place on the charging device when not in use.
The GE WattStation is for indoor and outdoor use, and does not need a separate cover. For safety, the WattStation is equipped with its own fault current guard.
The charging device was installed in the block heater stand at the Nissan Leaf driver's parking space. In this way the life of the EV motorist is facilitated and car charging is safe also in a housing company environment.
The installation work was carried out so that the alterations made to the block heater stand system can be reversed if necessary, for example if the resident/owner of the parking space changes. Thus the block heater stand can be returned to its original state.
