Technopolis - a trailblazer offering EV charging services
PlugIt Finland has installed EV charging devices in eight Technopolis locations in answer to the growing demand among Technopolis customers.
Customers occupying Technopolis business premises were sending a message loud and clear - what are you doing about EV charging facilities? One of Technopolis' principles is to blaze the trail for others to follow, particularly with regard to services, and they wanted to respond to the feedback by offering EV charging places.
EV charging devices have been installed at eight Technopolis locations this year. The aim is also to expand the charging network to other business premises, accoring to customer needs. The charging places have been very well received, with positive feedback.

PlugIt carried out installation and startup of charging devices
The charging systems for each individual Technopolis property comprise electrical/control centre and charging devices, the number of which varies from location to location. Eight charging devices can be connected to one control centre. As the number of EVs at each location increases, additional charging devices can be connected at those locations having less then eight devices.
Installation of the charging devices went smoothly, despite some small challenges at the beginning of some projects. PlugIt worked in cooperation with a local building services firm in the installation of the charging devices and control centres, so that as little disturbance as possible was caused to the users of the indoor car park. PlugIt carried out the startup installation and testing of the system.
Charging at Technopolis charging points
The starting point in the planning of EV charging systems already installed and to be installed at Technopolis properties has been to serve their customers. The charging devices for the locations have been selected so that they are practical and easy to use - just connect the charging cable and use an identifier to initiate charging.
The encased-model KEBA charging devices at Technopolis can be used for charging all chargeable vehicles on the market - easily and safely. Drivers need to have their own Type 2 charging cable.
At present the required identifier can be obtained from the lobby services on campus. Personal MyTechnopolis ID cards will be issued later.
The back-end system enables diversified operations
Usage of the charging devices at Technopolis is managed by the back-end system, which enables for instance remote control of the devices. With the back-end system it is possible to create user rights for charging and any possible failure situations can be noticed quickly. Thus the user gets support without delay.
One of the system's most important features is its connection to the existing Technopolis access/personal card. This allows e.g. the allocation of charging events, and therefore also energy consumption, to a specific user. The system also enables the total monthly consumption of the charging devices to be monitored, both locally and on the nationwide scale.
The Technopolis charging system consists of:
- 4 – 8 KEBA KeContact P20 Type2 sockets, 22kW
- Control centre, which includes device-specific connections, remote access components, and communication unit
Efficient charging
The current of the devices installed at Technopolis varies according to location. The total current of each location is 3x125A, which is divided evenly between each installed device. Thus a current of 3x32A is available on a 4-device system, and 3x16A from an 8-device system. A one-hour charge on the more powerful 3x32A will give the vehicle a maximum additional driving capacity of almost 100 km. The vehicles' charging time varies somewhat, due to their different capacities to take on charging current. In any case, whatever the vehicle, the capacity is there to fully charge all batteries during the working day.
Plugit Finland operates widely in the area of electric transport. We have supplied over 500 charging devices for different applications.
